Reflecting on 2017 & Goals for 2018

First of all, Happy New Year everyone!

Hope you’ve all had a great festive season with your family, friends and loved ones. My festive season has been all about relaxing and spending time with the family. I thought I would do a little post just reflecting on the year of 2017.

I did write a post in early January 2017 about some goals that I wanted to work towards so I will use that post as a reference and see how I’ve been doing in terms of working towards those goals. You can read that post HERE.

I had some blogging goals that I wanted to achieve and I think I managed to achieve most of them. One in particular was to improve on my blog photography, which I think I have done. Especially with my Instagram and posting more product shots on there. I am also proud at how much I have grown in terms of following on my Instagram.

Another goal was to promote my blog where I can. I achieve this by posting a lot more on my Instragram, being on Twitter more even if it was just liking and retweeting some tweets, going to blog events is also a nice way to promote yourself and your blog. Even when I have not posted a blog post in a week or 2, I always try to remain active on all my other social media platforms.

I think 2017 was the year of “blogging” for me, or the year of being a lot more involved in the blogging world. I’m saying this because I went to my first blogging event in 2017, the first of quiet a few in 2017! It was so exciting and inspiring to go to these events. Due to these events, I was able to meet some awesome girls who I now consider friends. My blogging girls gang! They are so lovely and I’m so glad to have met them and keep in touch with them. I love how we always have a photography session before the event and getting some awesome shots of us, and ofcourse selfies! Below are some snaps from the events that I’ve been to in 2017.

My first blogging event with my friend Zoe. This was BlogCon London.

Got my hair braided at BlogCon – Shoutout to Zoe for capturing the moment

My 2nd blogger event of the year. Threads and Co Flagship store opening event with my sister cousin Anna (a.k.a Artistically Curious)

I finally got to meet one of my blogging friends, Alex, for the first time at this event.

Got to meet these lovely ladies at the Bloggers Ball event. (3rd blogging event of 2017) Featuring our glitter lips that we got done at the Lipvir Stand. Patrizia, Lola Ola and Abiola

Having fun taking some photos at the SanDisk stand at the Bloggers Ball

After the Bloggers Ball, we went to this lovely place for a drink and I loved how we could just sit there and chat for awhile even though we met for the first time. We all clicked! I felt really fancy that day in that dress, having to travel to London on a train and tube – definitely an experience.

Where I got to meet some of these girls for the first time before heading to the Bloggers Suite event. A tradition of ours now where we take photos before and after events! Left to right, Alex, Landrine, Josephine, Naila, Saphron, Me and Paris

Casually chilling out at the SanDisk stand at the Bloggers Suite event with the girls.

We also went to the Blogcon event in London. We were not so impressed with the event itself, but we had a great time hanging out with each other and had a mean meal at Pizza Express after walking and standing around in queues for most of the day. Left to right, Saphron, Naila, Anna, me and Vanessa

As you can see, it’s been a pretty eventful year for me in terms of attending blogging events and I loved it. These girls are so awesome and we all have just clicked! I don’t just consider them my blogger girls, but I also now consider them my friends! We all support and inspire each other and I’m grateful that the blogging community have brought us all together. (whoop whoop)

I have also changed my blog layout and name completely by finally buying my own domain and changing the overall theme to my website. It’s a really good feeling to know that I have my very own website! My DA score for my website is now 12 – I’m actually so proud of this as I always thought it would stay on 1. So this a nice little achievement to see for my blog.

One of my goals was to post more regularly on my blog. This is one big thing that I have not managed to do as well as I would have wanted. This is due to all sorts of reasons such as life and being busy, but I really want to change that this year! I still try and do atleast one blog post a week, which I usually write on the weekends when I’m off. I want to make the effort and be consistent and not miss a week! Even if that means writing posts in advance. I always take photos in bulk so I will have photos ready, just need to get the content sorted.

Now onto some personal goals of mine that I had set:

There’s a lot of personal goals that I didn’t come close to achieving BUT, there’s always time and I can still work on achieving them now. One of the goals was to learn how to drive. I have finally started the ball rolling with this one and passed my theory test in 2017. I am currently in lessons now so hopefully I should be a new driver early this year. I’m determined to achieve this goal for sure!

I wanted to spend more money on clothes rather than makeup. Now, I still spent a lot on makeup in 2017 but I have been a bit more braver and started to not be afraid on spending more money on clothes. So I’m slowly getting there with this one. I do need some fashion tips though!

Reading is something I wanted to do more of. The only reading I managed to do was when I went on holiday and got really stuck into this book called ‘Gone Girl’. But when I came back from holiday, I stopped reading as things got busy and I never set time aside to read. I need to change that and start reading more and finally finish this book!

I did manage to get more into my skin care. I’ve been using more face masks, moisturising my face in the morning and cleansing at night. All that jazz. I have so many skincare products now so I need to use them. I need to work on body care and get into the habit of using body lotions at night after I bath. I sometimes get lazy with this.

My family extended this year with the new arrival of my beautiful nephew on the 8th of September. Thus making me an Aunty for the 2nd time. I love him to bits!

My adorable nephew was born this year and me and my Mom actually managed to plan a surprise baby shower for my sister in law. Very successful – she was very surprised!

 For 2018:

I still want to continue on working towards the goals I had set for myself in 2017 because as I said in that post, there’s no deadline with these goals. I just need to continue taking steps that make me get that little bit closer to achieving them.

I will finally be a driver at some point this year – this is what I’m certain of.

I need to head back to the gym! Something that I haven’t managed to keep up with, but it’s time to start again and actually stick to it!

I want to save more money this year and not spend as much on make up and skincare. I have enough skincare to last probably a good year or 2 and my makeup collection is always overflowing.

Finally finish reading Gone Girl.

I will continue to do more with my blog. Possibly revive my YouTube channel and start making videos. This is something that’s been on my mind for awhile now. So I want to invest more of my time to writing and preparing more blog posts and staying active on my social media platforms.

Above all else, I want to remain happy. I will continue to spend time with family, friends and boyfriend – making new memories and sharing good times together. Seeing new things, places and capturing those moments. There’s already more events coming up so I’m sure it will be another awesome year with some pretty awesome people!

Here’s to 2018! Cheers to that!
